Technical Information

GuildSystemTechnical contains all the technical info that I've come up with yet.

Basics

When a group of players decide to cooperate in the game they will be able to create a Guild. A group of at least 5 players will be able to register a guild within the game. These initial Guild Members will be to governing council of the Guild that they have created. To registrater a Guild, at a registration office in every town, the players will submit a Charter that will only be passed if at least 5 players have signed it since the last changes were made.

The Registration office will keep track of all money and resources belonging to the Guild. Guild money can be spent by members that have been granted temporary permission by the Council. Council members will also need this permission to spend the Guild money.

Obtaining a Charter

Because Guilds could be a source of income and power, it will be difficult to obtain a Charter. A number of quests will have to be completed to get a Charter, which should encourage cooperation between Players to accomplish this. Every quest will have a reward item, which would be useful to a player, and only if these reward items are given to the Registration office will a group obtain a Charter.

The Charter

The Charter will consist of the following will consist of:

  • Guild Name
  • Guild Description
  • Headquarters of the Guild, if one exists
  • Guild Resources
  • Public or Private Guild
  • Entry Fee
  • Number of members needed to alter the Charter
  • Title given to Council Members
  • Guild Rules
  • 5 or more Initial Members, which have digitally signed the Charter

Resources

This will be a list of the services that your Guild provides to it's members. The more you provide the more members you will attract.

If you are reported by multiple members, to the registration office, for not providing advertised resources your Guild will be investigated and possibly dissolved.

Private vs. Public

A Public Guild will have copy of the Guild Charter posted at the Registration Office. Players will be able to attempt to join your Guild, and have free access to the Charter.

Private Guilds will have not have their Charter available to the public, but will likely not grow as quickly either.

Entry Fee

The Entry Fee should be something related to the Guilds purpose. ex. Raw materials for a Blacksmith.

Members needed to alter the Charter

This is simply the number of Council members needed to make alterations to the Charter. This would include:

  • Adding / Removing Members
  • Adding / Removing Resources
  • Adding / Altering Titles for Member Rank
  • Adding / Removing Rules
  • Promoting / Demoting Members

Once alterations have been committed to the Charter they will be changed at the Registration Office.

Titles and Rank

Initially only the Title for the Council Members is required, but Lower rank Titles should be added. New Members to the Guild will enter at the lowest Rank.

Death of a player will result in the demotion of that player to entry status. If this were to cause a Council Member to be demoted, and the number of council members is less than that needed to alter the Charter, then it will require all the remaining council members to alter the Charter.

After the Charter

Once the Guild is registered it will be run by the Guild Members. This means that Guilds will be in charge of:

  • Enforcing Guild Rules
  • Protecting Guild Members and Resources
  • Quests or Challenges for Promotion
  • Attracting new Members

Possibilities

  • Guilds could be a method for a player to select a job or class.
  • Guilds could have competitions ( violent and non-violent ).
  • Unless you had knowledge of a Guild you would not recognize it's members.

I, MathGeek, am not committed to all of the above, and am open to suggestions.
