Welcome to TheManaWorld! We hope you will contribute much and well. You will probably want to read the help pages. Again, welcome and have fun! Cassy (talk) 15:42, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
Using the user talk
Well like we already discussed in game:
- each user talk page has an additional option besides "Read", "Edit" and "View history": "Add topic", pick that one
- "Subject/headline" at the top: just add what your message is about, e.g. mine is "Using the user talk"
- add your message in the editor
- end your message by signing it with "~~~~", when saving the page those characters will automatically be converted into your user page, user talk page and the date and time of when you wrote that message
- confirm
I will also put this in a better tutorial about how to work with the wiki ;)
There's still much to do to make the wiki more beginner friendly.
Well and now you see how it looks like when someone sent you a message on your user talk page ;)
Enjoy and feel free to leave me a message when you have questions.
Also note our General wiki discussion forum thread (also listed in Wiki Home).

Item pages
Hiya Norc, again thanks for your contributions :)
Wand and Wooden Staff look good, but can you double check with Help:Item sample page?
Some rather minor things are missing.
Thanks!
Cassy (talk) 08:58, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
I know you already wrote that some things are missing on the ammo pages you created but I'm not sure if you know what's missing and that also other item pages aren't finished yet?
Maybe it's on purpose?
So right now Wand, Wooden Staff, Iten, Warped Log, Terranite Arrow, Bone Arrows, Sling Bullet, Iron Arrow, Mouboo Figurine and Cotton Cloth miss a few things.
It's rather minor things, for most of them it's the headlines "Sources" and "See also" (double-check with Help:Item sample page). Are you already aware of that?
Other than that good work and of course feel free to ask if you have any questions!
Edit: I finally created the categories and templates for Useable Items and Generic Items today so we finally can correct all item pages and also create new ones :)
Cassy (talk) 09:38, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
Unfinished Item pages weren't on purpose. I found them as I was browsing wiki.
The missing links and data will be fixed, as soon as I get general layout made on the computer.
I have had a few small issues with the wiki:
1 -n- 2 Auto saved / created page when the work wasn't done.
3 Been logged off as I was saving work that was done.
So my work around is to create the basic info on computer then add to the edit screen.
May take a bit longer, but then all the info and correct links etc will be there.
Oh, and almost forgot, still need a new keyboard :)
Norc (talk) 18:54, 27 April 2015 (UTC)
You mean you found red links to those pages and then created them?
If that's the case it's better to finish a page before starting several new ones.
I just checked: we currently have 9,819 different (no double ones) red links on the whole wiki.
Well this includes translation pages but I guess you understand what I mean ;)
It won't clean up the mess the wiki contains, it will just move it a bit around.
But hey, we are about to really clean things up though, just give it some time :)
Looking forward to when you set up your "wiki contribution environment"!

I found the conflict I was having. There are 2 preview buttons.
One at top and bottom. The bottom preview bottom gives a "preview" notice
Knowing this makes for better quality of edits.
Norc (talk) 09:13, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
Personally I always use the one at the bottom.
In some cases "Show changes" is pretty useful as well.
Btw I editted a few pages you've been working on, you might want to check Recent Changes and then "Diff" ;)
Cassy (talk) 11:22, 13 May 2015 (UTC)
Hiya Norc, please finish the item pages you created.
So far I noticed that the item templates are wrong (you only changed "Item" e.g. to "Generic Item"), the sources are missing and also some points in "See Also".
We should always finish a page when creating it, else the wiki will always be a big mess of forgotton unfinished pages other people copy and paste in new pages which therefore are unfinished or have the wrong style (which is more than just visual, it's about navigation and structure) as well.
Right now I'm having a hard time updating the old item pages and the new ones you created :-/
Hope you understand, of course I appreciate your help ;)

As with every learning process there will be mistakes.
30 days ago I stared my "wiki" learning on the Spells page. For the most part it is done, except for minor template fixes.
The point being is that it is useful again. The linked pages can be clicked "or" searched and editted as needed.
Just as with the Spells page the Item reference area is a "Landing page". The redlinks have slowly been disappearing.
Right now I'm having a hard time updating the old item pages and the new ones you created :-/
Most of the pages we have talked about have been during this learning process.
There have been mistakes and there will be more, but the beauty of self learning is the ability to self correct,
which I do often.
Seems the connection issue is not new.

I am working on the Item Reference the same way I did the Spells page, and learning quite a bit.
So you will see mistakes and missing info, but it will be corrected, updated and become useful again.
I do understand and will continue to help as I can. :)
Norc (talk) 04:19, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Making mistakes is human, but I'm always a fan of people showing me if I've made a mistake so I can learn from it, so I do the same.
But I'm not talking about mistakes, I'm talking about unfinished pages, see above ;)
The spells look good and indeed make navigating easier.
What are your plans with the Item Reference? Remember that actually a script should do the job, it's just outdated at this point.
About the connection issue see my other reply.
Cassy (talk) 06:09, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
We definately are in agreement about the handling of mistakes ;).
Unfinished pages are simple place holders so the "redlinks" disappear from the base "Item Reference" area.
Not just a sub heading like ammo,
but the complete Item Reference area.
Once these "holes" in navigation are gone, template, source, see also, category, etc will be easier to correct.
While cruising around in the wiki dust bins I added Main Koga and Wizard's Rest and a few other minor things.
I have no worries about the connection issue, I will simply adapt.

Hardware Fun
Finally got the new keyboard, and surprised the repair shop.
Took my desktop in to upgrade RAM, tech was surprised when Debian Linux (32 bit) booted up as fast
as it did on 1 gig ram ddr2!! I simply smirked a little and said gnu/linux has come a long way since the 90's.
Sadly though the shop didn't have any RAM for this machine, but it did have a 1 TB hd I got for $40.00.
Funny part about this was , no one was aware they had the hd :).
This hd is dedicated to game, server (when I am competent enough) and wiki, nothing else, so this should be a bit of fun.
I have spent the last few days lo level format the hd, I am not interested in other peoples personal info.
With the above done, hope to be back on track in helping cleaning up and clarifying the English part of the wiki.
Best Regards,
Norc (talk) 22:28, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
Which is best format to add A or B
(A)
Template:Metakey
Template:Metadesc
I18n
Category_playerinfo
Status_green
(B)
Template:Metakey Template:Metadesc I18n
Category_playerinfo
Status_green
Brackets were left off for clarity.
I read somewhere the order of these help with translation.
Norc (talk) 16:59, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Heh language barrier, I'm finding it hard to find the right words in english^^
Well you can try both in a preview window, compare and find out what I mean:
Option A adds new line between the templates, it looks pretty ugly.
Cassy (talk) 18:36, 10 May 2015 (UTC)
Templates in the header
Heyyy since you are updating them right now:
To spare you some unnecessary work, it's okay when the templates are called "Template:Metadesc" instead of "Metadesc" or "Category_playerinfo" instead of "Category playerinfo".
Both work as they should, it's just a matter of which one looks better or "more correctly"
So you don't have to change them, just if you want to ;)
Cassy (talk) 14:09, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Ok thanx, that will save some work.
While looking came across a few pages that didn't have them, got hit with lag spike so couldn't save.
Only way to get back here was change ip at router again.
I did some searching and found TMW has had this issue since at least 2010, so I know it isn't my end.
Norc (talk) 14:24, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
I'm afraid I can't help regarding the connection problems, I don't have the knowledge for this.
But if you ask on the forums I'm sure you will receive some help.
